Thanks a lot, dragn. Now I have tonight's earworm.

Influenced many, including the Beatles and Elvis.

Deep down in Louisiana close to New Orleans,
Way back up in the woods among the evergreens
There stood a log cabin made of earth and wood,
Where lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode
Who never ever learned to read or write so well,
But he could play a guitar just like a ringing a bell.

[Chorus:]
Go Go
Go, Johnny, go, go
Go, Johnny, go, go
Go, Johnny, go, go
Go, Johnny, go, go
Johnny B. Goode

He used to carry his guitar in a gunny sack
Or sit beneath the tree by the railroad track.
Oh, the engineers would see him sitting in the shade,
Strumming with the rhythm that the drivers made.
The people passing by, they would stop and say,
"Oh, my, but that little country boy could play!"

[Chorus]

His mother told him, "Someday you will be a man,
And you will be the leader of a big old band.
Many people coming from miles around
To hear you play your music when the sun go down.
Maybe someday your name will be in lights
Saying 'Johnny B. Goode tonight'."

God speed Mr. Berry

The roots of rock and roll are passing but will live on for a very long time.

For some reason this news makes me feel old as dirt.
He was the first artist I saw at a large venue.
University of Maryland. Cole field house. 19whateveritwas.

Chuck B Goode.

And Dawgluver, Use both hands. ;)

RIP, Chuck!

Who was Maybellene? According to Wikipedia: "He also thought the titles "Ida Red" and "Ida May" were "too rural". Spotting a mascara box on the floor of the studio, according to Berry's pianist Johnnie Johnson, Chess said, "Well, hell, let's name the damn thing Maybellene" altering the spelling to avoid a suit by the cosmetic company."

I actually heard him tell that story in a Biography episode on A&E many years ago. My Dad is going to be happy Mr. Berry is joining them. Dad loved his music....and for that matter so do I!

Rest In Peace Chuck Berry. You will be missed.

Just read an obit for Chuck by the NYT music critic. Very good. I'd post a link but not sure how with my iPhone from twitter.

Thanks GG. As a teenager, I danced my short little legs off to his music. I can still hear it in my head. Maybellene was my very favorite. My partner and I won a dance contest to that song. Thank you Chuck. RIP.
