*sigh* I hate to be the bearer of bad news again, but we've lost another member of our DC family. Got Garlic passed away on October 16th, 100 days after her dear, much loved hubby. I'm sure the doctors have medical reasons for her death, but I'm sure that she really died of a broken heart.

We had been texting back and forth from a few weeks before her DH died. General chit-chat along with offering her an e-shoulder to cry on. Her last message to me was on October 2nd, ending with "I never thought I would outlive him. I can't believe I'm here and he's not". I didn't know what to say. Had no words of comfort. Thought of her every day, many times a day. Never did get back to her. I should have at least answered with a heart. My lesson learned: never not reply because you don't know what to say...

Oh no! I agree with you CG, it was a broken heart. There were probably physical reasons, but I doubt she had much motivation to fight for her survival. I appreciate that you were there for her, even if at a distance. I will miss her. I'm in tears. Thank you for the reminder about getting back to people. I have a friend I need to call. We are in touch on FB, but I realize that I need to call and have some proper one on one time with her.

Ahh Got Garlic, you will be sorely missed here by your e-family at Discuss Cooking. Please peek in on those of us left behind once in a while. May you Rest in Peace.

Cooking Goddess, thank you so much, such difficult news to pass on. I too must pull up my socks and call a couple more often. Like taxy I have two especially loved friends who make no plans, just live day to day and enjoy what they have left.

There truly is a medical condition called Broken Heart Syndrome. Suffering a loss, such as GG did, could indeed trigger this. Happened to a friend of mine. They had to life flight her to a big city hospital to fix her up. She was lucky that she still had her hubby, it was her very close cousin that she lost.

I was going to send a PM to GG a few days ago, but got distracted and never sent it. Sorry to hear of her passing.

My mom's memory issues are perhaps a blessing in disguise. She forgets that he died, and asks us where he is. "I can't find dad, do you know where he is?"

Call, visit, do what you need to do before it's too late. Learn from my mistake.

Now I need to take my own advice and make lunch plans with a few of my old (and getting older) friends. ;)

Guess I'm getting maudlin in my old age. Everytime something like this happens my brain starts to scroll thru all of those whom I miss so much.... and that includes my sweet animals!

I'm telling yuh folks, if that plumber sends a bill .....
