I'm in the market for one. I was wondering a couple of things. After searching this forum for the subject, I found one reply that says NEVER allow the probe to contact water. Huh? Isn't the first thing you people do is submerse your newly bought thermometer probe in boiling water (212F) or iced water (32F) to check for accuracy? Also, if you did, how much was it off? Also, I like one reply that says go for the cheaper $20 ones because so many flake out. I can attest to this as some units have 11 five star reviews and 18 one star reviews (it crapped out after a week, month, etc). I know you shouldn't let the probe come in contact with metal, but water too? Huh?
