Pineapple chunks

I forgot to answer the question about eating pineapple on ham at Easter. Yes, I have. I do not like it. I have disliked ham with sweet since I was a little kid. We went to Easter supper at the home of some Swedish friends of my parents. There was a beautiful looking ham, not with pineapple, but with a diamond pattern scored onto the surface with cloves (I believe it was cloves) stuck in the corners of the diamonds and it was shiny and I was dying to taste this beautiful ham. Then I tasted it and nearly gagged. I was polite enough to finish it, but refused seconds. It really didn't help that they also served sweet potatoes with marshmallow sauce. I had never had sweet potato before and I really didn't want to taste that again. I think I was about seven years old at the time. I would refuse to eat sweet potatoes with marshamallow sauce to this day and I'm not so pleased to eat them at all, even without a sweet sauce.

If someone doesn't like olives on their pizza, it is easy to pull them off and put them aside. Sam with mushrooms. The thing with pineapple, and I know this from experience, is that you can pull the chunks of pineapple off, and the pineapple juice is still there.

I have a friend who really dislikes green bell peppers. But, when she orders pizza, she never tells them not to include them on her all dressed pizza. She admits that they add a little something good to the flavour. She figures that by the time the pizza arrives in front of her, the bell pepper has done all the good it's going to do and she picks off the green bell pepper pieces, so she won't have to have chunks of it in her mouth. I also am not found of green bell pepper, but do sometime use it in cooking and even in a salad. I julienne it. I don't want big chunks of it in my mouth either. Next time I order a pizza that comes with green bell pepper, I'm going to do the same thing, rather than tell them not to put it.

This is as fancy as pizza gets when I make it at home. Crust, homemade sauce, low-moisture mozzarella, pepperoni, and fresh basil.

This isn't really anything new, but I thought I'd share.

I love pineapple on pizza, but when I buy a pizza from a pizza place, it costs extra to add pineapple and if I get a frozen all-meat or supreme pizza from the store, it won't have pineapple on it. I was getting cans of pineapple chunks so I could put those on the pizza, but the average can is too large and I'd have a ton of frozen pineapple and juice left over that sat in the freezer forever before I used it again.

So I found - ta da! - little pineapple cups. They're in the canned fruit section and are the size of pudding cups. They don't need to be fridged or frozen so they can go live in the pantry, plus one cup will neatly cover one medium take-out or frozen pizza. And they have minimal juice.

Just in case you guys wanted pineapple on your pizzas, too, this will at least save the cost of one extra item if you do take-out.
Yum! I love pineapple on pizza and add it often to homemade ones.

I too buy the cans of pineapple, usually the slices. Can't use it all on one pizza, obviously, so I line a sheet pan with either wax paper or parchment, lay the pineapple slices onto the sheet pan, then stick them into the freezer. Once they're solid, I put the frozen pineapple slices into a zipper bag, then put them back into the freezer. Anytime I need a slice or two of pineapple (for either pizza or something else) I just get out what I need and stick 'em into the freezer again.

Sorry if anyone else has already mentioned this. I simply responded to rodentraiser's post before reading the rest of the thread.

I've always figured pineapple served with ham was to offset the sometimes hideously salty taste of the ham with the acidic sweetness of the pineapple.
I always liked ham, just not a lot of it, although I do like it a lot more now than in my younger years.
Pineapple, as much as I like it, seems to rip my mouth apart with the acid.

Now on to pepperoni. I used to pick it off my wedge of pizza although now I keep it on, but I never order it with.
Been more than 10 years since I bought a green sweet pepper.
Olives, black and/or green are always welcome on my pizza.
Mushrooms - of course! and in this instance I actually prefer canned mushrooms.

Dragn', raw pineapple is full of strong enzymes. It's why gelatine won't set with raw pineapple in it. It's the enzymes trying to digest the mucous membranes in your mouth and making them hurt. Does canned or cooked pineapple rip up the inside of your mouth? I don't find it does mine, and the raw one does. The enzymes should all be deactivated by cooking.

I like canned mushrooms on homemade pizza as well. However, if I use fresh mushrooms on pizza, I always saute them in a little butter (to slightly soften them and bring out the mushroomy flavor) before I put them on my pizza.

Funny, because when you mentioned picking off the pepperoni, it reminded me that, as a kid, I would only eat the crust of the pizza. Didn't matter what toppings were included. I would pull everything off the slices of my pizza, including the cheese, and eat just the crust and the sauce.

I used to hate pepperoni on pizza. But, I like it now. I think the pizza places around here are using better quality pepperoni now.
