Oops, sorry, brain got mixed up this morning, cotto is regular ham.

Yes, Prosciutto Crudo is raw ham (cured for at least 10 months, up to 3 years) regular ham is Prosciutto Cotto - Cooked ham.
Prosciutto di Parma is more well-known, and so is San Daniele (the two most expensive ones) , but of course prosciutto is produced all over the country.
Then we have our delicious Parmacotto! 😋
 
Is it like translucent thin? If it is, I'd have to wonder how long it's been open. I happened to need some once and they had recently finished one, so they opened a new one right in front of me. That was the best prosciutto we'd ever had outside if Italy.
Nope, not usually translucent. I have seen translucent prosciutto, but I don't think I tried to put that on a sandwich. I don't buy prosciutto to use on a sandwich. But, you have a point about how long the package had been open for. In this case, how long it had been open at home. I would probably have put it in a sandwich to eat it up before it got old.
