The spam

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that enjoys cooking.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
The "What's New" tab. Usually on the bottom right of the page. I never look at the "New Posts" page.

The "View More" tab is back now.

Okay,
I can't keep up with reporting posts. Spam comes in faster than it can be reported and now headed by seemingly legit subjectsd

Please can a number of people get deleting powers

Or can something change for people posting for the first couple of times?

The latest spam from new members audreymolloy and mikaylacode is interesting to me because it appears to contain original posts from DC members.

I haven’t seen that before.

Maybe they have been hacked?
I doubt it. The posts are not from those accounts of those members. The posts are in new accounts. What it looks like to me is that the new members have searched through posts here, that are visible to anyone and everyone and simply copied some text.

Could the concerted attack to post other people's posts be just a smoke screen to some other kind of attack? Something that takes time to notice and if the mods or admins are working on deleting posts then the hackers can launch something more delicate and difficult to ferret out.

It's probably so it looks legit from the start.
Something along those lines. I certainly looked more carefully when the signature of a long term member was at the end of one of those posts.
But why go through so much effort?
You don't think it is something automated?
I do expect that it is something automated making the posts. But, what makes you think that there isn't an automated way to find the posts and copy and paste bits into the spam posts?

today's spammers are real amateurs. they simply copied a prior message and added their spam.
the more clever ones embed the links in the quote-back section,
or a text-link using just a punctuation character.

the only solution is to require staff review/release of initial messages from new members. either this forum software does not support that option or the management does not wish to control the spam.
