I'm invited to a friend's house for break the fast after Yom Kippur. Nobody keeps strictly kosher, but it is a dairy only (meatless) meal. I have been asked to bring "some kind of noodle dish" and I'm stumped! I could do a plain ole macaroni and cheese or some kind of noodle kugel, but I was kind of hoping the smart and clever folks on here might have some other yummy ideas!!

Kugel is traditional. There are many varieties, but a sweet one (say one with raisins) would be fitting with the holiday as you are supposed to eat sweet things for a sweet new year.
 
I have to agree with GB, at our event we usually have 2 kugel's, when my grandmother was around she'd make the traditional apple and raisin kugel which was killer, and then my GF (now wife) would make some odd-ball kugel which usually tasted great (but never lived up to Nana's).

I think this year we're going for an apricot variant.
 
Kugel is traditional, but sesame noodles are much better :-p Every time i go to my parents for any holiday, being vegetarian, I usually just bring my own thing so no one has to go out of their way for me. Even if my dish doesnt match the meal, it is usually the first one gone, because its much more unique and different then the crap they serve year after year after year ....., other ideas = cold pasta salad with marinated artichokes, black olives, grilled vegetables in garlic and oil
 
Larry: Could you share your sesame noodle recipe?
The Ina Garten one sounds great, but this is definitely not a "spicy" crowd!! I will be trying it for myself tho!
Also, anyone want to share a tried and true kugel recipe?
 
How about Kasha Varnishkas. :pig: I buy the box of Kasha & bow tie noodles. There should be directions on the back of the box. If not, prepare the kasha. I add sauteed chopped onions & sliced mushrooms & lots of butter. Cook & drain your noodles & mix it all together. Best served hot.

Amy: Just wanted to let you know I tried the Egg Noodle Bake with Golden Raisins and it was a huge hit! Of course, I used the full fat versions of the cottage cheese and sour cream, and whole eggs instead of egg whites, so maybe that made it especially delicious!! Just wanted to say "thanks" and let others know this was a winner!

How about a sweet noodle pudding made with cottage cheese, sour cream and pineapple....some sugar of course.

Ella, That Egg Noodle Bake IS a Noodle Pudding. Don't know why the author didn't call it that!

In our family we serve the Lukshen Kugel for dessert, because it IS so sweet. The one I like best is made with Angel Hair pasta, and it puffs up like a souffle! REALLY yummy!;)
