I'm making Spotted Dick for dessert tomorrow. The recipe says to put the batter in a large bowl on top of the steamer basket inside a large pot with the lid on and steam for 2 hours. However, The bowl on the steamer basket is taller than the pot. Approximately, 1/4 of the bowl is sticking out over the top of the pot so I can't get the lid on. How do I remedy this? It won't cook the same if I just stick the bowl in the pot without the steamer will it? Then the bowl would be touching the water and it wouldn't be steaming as much as boiling... Would it work if I covered it with aluminum foil instead of a pot lid? Any ideas would be much appreciated!! :chef:

I would either get a bigger pot, or use foil. If you put the bowl in the water it will poach rather than steam, which you do not want.

Roll up some foil and make it like a snake. Wrap it around the top lip of the steamer.Place the steamer lid on top. It should give you the height you need
