Ruth Wakefield invented the chocolate chip cookie one night while baking her famous butter drop-do cookies at the Toll House Inn.

cut up some semi-sweet bars and substituted it in her recipe. to her
surprise, the chocolate didn't melt completely.
Andrew Nestle' had given her the bars as a gift and later agreed
to print the toll house recipe on the label of the chocolate bars.

Invented just over 70 years ago, the chocolate chip cookie is said to be the most popular cookie, with 7 billion eaten annually.
