I'm curious if there's any folklore attached to this, or if it is simply overpopulation.

I've lived in this small (3500) town for ten years.

All of the sudden, this year there is a huge number of deer. Right in town.

In the previous ten years, I think we saw deer in our part of town a few times. This year there are a lot of them.

I partially think that there was a local scare on venison the past few years, maybe it is simply because there is less hunting.

Right now, I'm enjoying the deer. That said, it isn't good for them to be this close in city limits, and I assume they're here because of hunger, which also isn't a good thing.

I'm sure when I plant my garden next spring, I certainly won't be happy! Seriously, as much as some hate hunting, it certainly is better than starving animals.

Does anyone know of any other reason the deer would start to come into town so much more? We aren't a huge, growing town where the suburbs are encrouching on their territory. There hasn't been much building, etc, in the past year. The only thing I can think of is that there has been less hunting.

Any other ideas?
