    Wedding Gift Ideas?

We gave a certificate to a fairly local bed and breakfast to a close friend (2nd marriage for both) and they liked it so much they went back several times. Another idea is a special Christmas or other holiday ornament or decoration. Maybe a Willow Tree ornament. Sent from my SPH-L710 using...

    Books and Reading

I often reread books. The Hunger Games Trilogy really pulled me in and I read the series off and on, on my phone, when I don't have my Kindle with me. And I love it when I find a new-to-me series. I've read the first two of the Insurgent series and am looking forward to the third now! Linda

    Bread and butter pickle problem

Thanks to all...I hope the extra sugar and "mellowing" will help make the pickles more what she wants. She lives in SC and I live in VA, so I can't "help" her make the pickles and check if there are any small changes, but I really think she followed the recipe exactly. Thanks again. Linda

The rolls turned out pretty well....I didn't take time for the second 2-hour rise - just went a little over an hour - but they were lighter than my usual batches. Thanks for your help.

I want to make the lightest possible yeast bread (white)

Thanks, Somebunny - i printed out the recipe and will try it another time....12 cups of flour???? Wow! I doubled the Amish Dinner rolls recipe listed above and they are on the second rise now. I am very happy with the first rise.....I didn't cook quite enough potatoes, so I used a little bit...

I want to make the lightest possible yeast bread (white)

I've made angel biscuits - I have my grandmother's recipe and they are really, really good....I want a true "light roll" recipe - something like you get at O Charley's, The Wood Grill, or other chain restaurants.....they don't usually have a lot of flavor, but i want the lightness....my yeast...

I want to make the lightest possible yeast bread (white)

Does someone have a tried and true recipe to make yeast rolls so light they will rise off the pans unless you cover them in butter? My rolls always tastes fine, but I want to make a batch of "airy" rolls....do I need to knead the dough longer? Let rise more? Use more yeast...

    What's your favorite trail mix?

I always make my own....and it varies...walnuts, cashews, pecans, raisins (gold and regular), craisins, sunflower seeds and sometimes I get some minced dried fruit. I am not a big fan of peanuts so i usually don't put any in my mixes...and I seldom put M&M's or any type of chocolate in it either.

Does Costco Take Credit Cards Other Than American Express?

Luckily, my work pays for my membership...I have to spend my time on a Saturday buying supplies for our work kitchen a few times a year, but they do pay me mileage to go there. Hubby gets a free membership. We would not spend enough on our own to justify joining. And the grazing is good on...

What's the last movie you watched?

Saw The Hunger Games over the weekend! Intense! Of course the book is better, but the movie did a good job in presenting the story.

Book Suggestions please! I'm loading my Kindle!

Janet Evanovich, Lisa Lutz and Sue Grafton all have good series books to read. Don't know how much they are though, but you will laugh out loud at times with Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. (the movie, One for the Money, just came out a few weeks ago).

    Tassimo vs Keurig

I want a Keurig and I don't even drink coffee! We talked about getting one for Christmas, but didn't go for it..... I've had a couple cups of English Breakfast Tea from a friend's pot, but thought the tea tasted a bit of coffee. Would that be my imagination? Can the flavors transfer?

Good and Bad holiday stories for this season?

We had a heart-breaking Christmas...heard at 10 am that a good friend died instantly (and suddenly) of a massive heart attack...his daughter & son in law applied cpr immediately until the ambulance arrived but never got a response...he was a heavy smoker and coughed and hacked all the...

    Gluten-free sausage gravy

I hope everyone had a very good Christmas - we experienced the unexpected death (heart attack) of a close friend which put a damper on our Christmas. Hubby used the rice flour for the sausage gravy and it worked out fine. D-i-l was so pleased and happy that we "went to all that trouble" for...

    Gluten-free sausage gravy

I seem to remember my grandmother using cornstarch in her gravy, but i thought she used regular flour too...I seem to remember someone teasing my grandfather because his gravy was "industrial strength" - you could almost cut it in squares and it would hold its shape.

    Gluten-free sausage gravy

So...I guess I am really just asking if the gluten-free flour will make a difference in the texture or taste of sausage gravy? We have a box of all-purpose rice flour. Thanks for the responses.
