    Recipe for light rye sourdough

After much success with white sourdough, I tried my hand at a light rye sourdough. Alas, after 2 loaves were dispatched to the rubbish bin, wasn't even game to feed them to the chooks, I am in desperate need of a good recipe that even I can't kill. Can anyone help me please? Así es la vida.

Bread Not Rise Tall but Wide

I prove mine in a basket, but even a colander lined with a well floured cloth will do. This shapes the dough, and if you think that the dough is too soft, after it has proved, place it covered in the fridge for 30mins to stiffen the dough. Remove it and lace it immediately into the heated oven...

    Sourdough crumpets or English muffins.

Made the Shipton Mill crumpets this morning for brekkie, very tasty. Only problem, I had to use egg rings and the dough came over the top like Mt. Versuvius. To me, they were more like muffins, so I split and toasted them and served with syrup. Fred loved them, so more Brownie points. Así es...

    Baking day at Grannys42's place.

You are more than welcome. As you can see, I have plenty. Fred and I have 7 children, all grown and gone, but they still pop in to visit so we must have a stock of food on hand. I'm hoping for a copy of Katycooks pulled pork recipe, team that with my sourdough and here comes another kilo on my...

Thanks. I'm so happy with my sourdough starter. Don't know why I haven't had one before.

A photo of my baking for the day. No wonder I'm growing wider that I am tall. It's not the bread, it's what I put on top of it. Así es la vida.

    Ryan my rye sourdough starter.

Well, this morning, Ryan, my sourdough started, came to life and tried to run away from home. He has been sitting on my bench top, trying to harvest and passing wild yeast, but looking very downtrodden, and this morning, when I came into the kitchen, there he was trying to get out of the bottle...

    Sourdough crumpets or English muffins.

Well, what can I say. I honestly had not been drinking when I wrote that post about the yeast in the crumpets. I don't know what I read, but it wasn't that recipe. I stand corrected and thanks. Así es la vida.

    Sourdough crumpets or English muffins.

Sourdough crumpets Thanks for those sites. I had looked at the King Arthur site, but they use the addition of yeast, I wanted to only use my wild yeast starter. The Shipton one looks good though. Never had sourdough before coming to this site, now my husband and I love it. I might be...

    Ryan my rye sourdough starter.

Well I thought I was so clever naming my rye starter "Ryan" after Robert Ryan, and when I started looking for sourdough crumpets recipes I found this topic. My Ryan is only 3 days old, so I'm hoping he has a better fate than yours. Así es la vida.

    Sourdough crumpets or English muffins.

Does anyone have a recipe using sourdough starter without extra yeast for crumpets or muffins? Have looked at King Arthur site, but alas, their recipes use yeast as well. Así es la vida.

First sourdough loaf, boy, am I happy.

Hi Josie 1945, I used white wild yeast starter. I had trouble at first with the starter, but persevered until it was more robust. Have been making the sourdough pancakes from this site, but decided it was time for the big challenge. Now that I have had success, will start on my wild rye. Thanks
