    Need suggestions

Thanks for the suggestions. DH has the material ready to build a second, smaller smoker, so maybe I will be back on the forum more this year. We still love the one we built several years ago, but it is pretty large, and a pain to have to pay to register it for that 1 or 2 trips we take it...

do you watch Top Chef? Fabio Viviani is in studio Tuesday

I really enjoyed him on the show, and there was some other special he came back for.

    Need suggestions

It's been awhile since I have posted (2 years I think!). Our staple has always been brisket. We got our method down long ago and although we occasionally try something new because we keep an open mind, we always end up back to our tried and true. We also do country style pork ribs some. DH...

    Meat is on

FYI - I still haven't been back near a pork butt since I last commented on this thread. After almost two years away from this forum, I've returned to ask about a pork loin that my husband got from his mother in law. The thread almost got a bit lively. Maybe pork and I just don't get along...

Need ideas on a large pork loin

I had to go back and find my old thread about my first (and only) experience with a pork butt. For some reason I seem to have kept some of the pictures and deleted others in addition to using two different hosting places. It did bring a chuckle back if anyone gets bored...

Need ideas on a large pork loin

I definately did not take any offense. Just an FYI on my above statement, times aren't mentioned because we cook it until it is "done", not for a specific time limit. Our fire normally runs around 225 degrees, but we have to adjust time limits based on weather or other things we are cooking in...

Need ideas on a large pork loin

Yep, this is the same old forum I remember. Plenty of heat, flames, and some smoke blowing around! Just kidding. :) I'm just going to sit back and let you all duke it out. Hubby wants the pork loin; I could care less. I may just let him mess with it all!!

Need ideas on a large pork loin

Yep, I'm just being stubborn. I don't want to use high heat.

Need ideas on a large pork loin

Thanks! I looked back through my posts and I hadn't done anything since the summer of 2006. Shortly after that last past, I experienced a death and went into a bit of a depression for a while. But I was able to have luck on some medication, get over that hump, and now I've been off the meds...

Need ideas on a large pork loin

Thanks for all the advice. This is not boding well for our invisions of "set it and forget it". (Well, not really forget it. We've just got our brisket and country style pork ribs along with the way our smoker acts to such a routine, that it doesn't take much effort. Not that effort is a bad...

Need ideas on a large pork loin

I should have added that we will be camping when we cook this, so all we will have is our large smoker, a charcoal grill, and the tiny oven inside the camper.

Need ideas on a large pork loin

I actually saw that thread when I was doing my search. Unfortunately, we don't have access to a fryer. We'll have the smoker going while we do some briskets and ribs.

Need ideas on a large pork loin

My mother-in-law sent my husband home with a large pork loin. Just guessing, but I didn't see any bone in it, so I would think it would be similar to a large boneless loin roast?? Hubby called it a tenderloin, but it's way too big for that (I think). I don't know how many pounds it is, but it...

    MIL's new smoker

If it were ours, I would be one of the first trying the mods. However, with my MIL, she would just laugh at me and say I spent too much time online. Besides, this way, we have the upperhand at being able to cook a better brisket (at least until she figures out the new smoker) Thanks...

    MIL's new smoker

We tested out my MIL's new smoker this weekend. It is a New Braunfels and she got it for around $400 from Academy. Here is a pic (hopefully). We cooked a brisket, a boston butt, some country style pork ribs, and some riblets over the weekend on it. Here are my thoughts on it as compared...

    Lessons Learned

It was a fun weekend. I only wish home base could have been at our campsite instead of at the other campsite. (We have a bathroom in our camper, they do not and the ones waaayy far up the road from them were nasty. Everyone else was just peeing in the lake, but since I don't like to be in the...

    Lessons Learned

We had a very educational camping/boating trip this weekend, and I though I could be kind and share some of our lessons learned. 1. When the wind picks up and the sky begins to grey, put up your awning. Luckily, we did this and got to witness the aftereffects of the "lesson learned". The guy...

    No bar tab this weekend

Yeah, if it were a small bar, like the pub that we go to, I would go back. But this is the bar across the street from the university that has dollar night tuesday and everything like that to stay packed with the college crowd. If they would have tried to notify us some way, we wouldn't be so...

    No bar tab this weekend

Actually, my story from that weekend used to be that I walked in on the bass player peeing in the women's bathroom. That was funny. Now I've got another one that is only funny because everything got resolved. Still, we have not decided if we will return to that bar or not.

    No bar tab this weekend

Last weekend was my birthday. That meant, it was a get trashed twice weekend. Did a reasonable job the first night up at the pub we normally go to. Strictly drinking beer. The next night we went to another bar to see a concert. It was country music, but they were a fun group that we had seen...

    what's cooking on the 4th?

I don't know if we will be cooking or not. We'll be at the lake Friday - Monday and due to the burn bans, the smoker is not coming with us. Instead we are taking the boat. We'll be home by noon on Monday, so that still leaves us Monday evening and Tuesday, so there may be time for a cook...

    Start 'em young...

So cute. Almost makes me think the little devils (kids) aren't so bad and I might actually have one of them one day. But then I think about my husband's cousin's child that his parents keep and I think never. We kid around about that child being the best form of birth control!! My MIL...

    Hey Look

Oh great, you had me concerned for a moment that MY husband had joined (I had kidded around that he should). But nope, not mine.

    Maverick ET-7 -- Customer Service

Probe arrived on Monday. Unfortunately, we don't have another bbq planned for awhile and our weekends are full coming up. So, it will be awhile before I can honestly say if this has fixed the problem or not.

    We got a boat

Yeah, I know what you mean. Hubby is already mad at me because I wont let him buy any new toys. We have a wakeboard that got left at the cabin and something happened to it to scratch up the bottom. He wanted to get a new board because of it. We just bought a new knee board and big tube. I...
