    All natural?

The local Food Lion store advertised St. Louis cut spares for $2.49 per pound this week, so I went to the store to get some. I should have known better - in spite of "All Natural" on the label, there was also (in much smaller print) a note that the ribs were "enhanced" (or adulterated...

Pork butts 0.99 per lb, Food Lion

Food Lion in the Winston-Salem, NC area has butts for 0.99 per pound. They are "enhanced" with 8% added pork broth (whatever that is (cough - water - cough)) but for that price I was willing to overlook it.

I saw a bottle of PeeDee River Swamp Sauce today...

on the shelf in the office of a co-packer that my employer insures. So now I know where it comes from. No, I didn't shoplift it, though I was tempted.

    Box o' Goodies

Santa must have come by earlier this morning. I found a box with two bottles of PeeDee River Swamp Sauce, and a couple of other flavors (one of them has bourbon in it, so I know it will be good). Now I'll have to fire up the cooker and make something to use all this sauce with. (Thanks...

    Poultry day

I just put a turkey breast and a whole roaster on the WSM. Salt and pepper on the turkey, Everglades Cactus Dust on the chicken. This is a considerable sacrifice for me, since I'm on a total liquid diet* until tomorrow. :( So I'll have to watch other people eat these birds. Hopefully...

I was in Mt. Airy today

In one of the shops they had souvenir keychains with a bullet - presumably Barney's one bullet. The problem was, every one of them was a 9mm bullet, and I'm pretty sure ole Barn carried a .38 Special revolver. So instead, I bought me a genuine Ernest T. Bass throwin' rock for only...

Free 22" Weber lid Triad NC area

Weber sent me a new lid for my 22" kettle, so if anyone in the Winston-Salem or Greensboro, NC area would like my old one, let me know. I say old, actually it was used only once. It's green, if that matters, and had a couple of chipped spots in the porcelain which I painted with high-temp bbq...

    Santa was here...

Nobody saw him, even the dog didn't bark. But a package appeared at my door: I've never had a spiedie, but now I'm ready to make some. Thanks!

    Birthday Ribs

I cooked ribs today for my birthday. Ready to cook. Royal Oak lump, and hickory chunks. The finished product. Four of us ate them with corn on the cob, cole slaw, pinto beans, and potato salad. Oh, and beer, too. :)

    Wasted lunch (rant)

I was in Chapel Hill NC today, so I stopped for lunch at one of the best-known bbq restaurants in that area, which shall remain nameless because of how bad my lunch was. I ordered the lunch special, which was ribs. I think the pig must have died of old age based on the size of the bones. One...

    For ScottyDaQ

As a bagpiper, I play many gigs.Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man.He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Kentucky back-country. As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost and being a...

Myron Mixon on the Tonight show

He was on... for a couple of minutes. I was expecting a long enough conversation for at least a couple dozen bleeps. What's worse, we didn't get to see as much of Sandra Bullock as we usually do, either. The red dress was nice, but I prefer the little black dress from the last time she was...
