I guess it's true that we shrink during the day

I've noticed lately that, after a day at work, I have to adjust my rear view mirror (tilting it down) so I can get a full view of cars behind me. But then when I get into my car in the mornings, I have to tilt it back up because I'm seeing too much of the rear deck and not enough 'full view' of...

Can you freeze canned jellied cranberry sauce?

Tomorrow for Sunday dinner I'm roasting a whole bone-in turkey breast (with fixins) and I love cranberry sauce with my turkey. I have a can of Ocean Spray jelled cranberry sauce. But since my son doesn't like it, I'm the only one who will be eating it. Which means I'm going to have probably 3/4...

How do you private message someone???

"Private", meaning, of course, that no one else can see the conversation. I'm completely lost. There's nowhere, that I see, inside a person's public post, to click on that allows you to PM them. And even when you click on their username, there are checkboxes giving you a choice between "Allow...

Can you cook ham in the foil it comes wrapped in?

I bought one of these little beauties from Aldi the other day to bake for Sunday dinner this weekend. The label directions aren't real specific, so I was wondering if you can bake these in the gold foil, or would it be best to remove it? It comes with a packet of brown sugar glaze, which I know...

    Automatic Salt & Pepper Grinders/Mills

Does anyone here use them? And what do you think? I've thought about maybe buying a set but, it seems to me, although they look nice and convenient, it would take away the 'fun' of grinding up your own salt & pepper. That's part of the fun of cooking, in my opinion. I like twisting my own...

Have you put your cold weather 'clothes' on your bed yet?

My bed is all ready for the colder weather, with my cutesie fleece bed linens that are 'ice' blue with big white snowflakes throughout. They're so comfy and cozy and very inviting, which makes going to bed pleasurable and super snuggy. There's just something special about crawling into bed on...

Can anyone recommend a good Chef Knife that isn't terribly expensive?

I haven't had a good chef knife in many years and pretty much cut everything (meats, vegetables, fruit, etc) with a standard steak knife and generally use a cleaver to chop fresh garlic and herbs. While they do the job just fine (mostly because it's all I have and I'm used to using them) I'd...

How about foods you've tried once or twice that you'll never eat again.

For me it's kale, okra and escargot. With kale, I couldn't get past the disgusting bitter taste. And, with both okra and escargot, I couldn't get past the texture. To add, I also can't do field greens. A lot of places these days use field greens for their salads (even fast food places like...

What is going on with the price of canned mushrooms???

In most of my cooking, I prefer fresh mushrooms. But I sometimes buy the canned type for certain dishes and was shocked at the prices. I mostly buy the small 4 oz cans and they used to be around 79 cents to 99 cents, if that. But now even the store brand canned mushrooms - for 4 measly ounces -...

Braunschweiger - Your favorite way to use it?

I grew up eating Braunschweiger, mostly because my mom, who was German, loved it so much and I learned to like it as well. My personal favorite way to eat it is in sandwich form on toasted bread with Miracle Whip and onions. However, having just bought some, I'm looking for other ideas on how...

Has anyone successfully frozen cooked (fresh) mushrooms?

My grocery store had large containers of pre-sliced fresh mushrooms (just your standard white mushroom) on sale, two packages for $4. My son won't eat mushrooms, so, as my son likes to say, "That's all you, mom." Which means I'm the only one who's going to end up eating them. So okay! Now I'm...

I'd like recommendations for good powdered eggs

With high egg prices and possible shortages coming, etc., I'm looking to buy some powdered eggs to have on hand, just in case. Do any of you buy powdered eggs and could you recommend a good brand with good flavor that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I'm looking mostly for eggs that can be eaten...

Whatever happened to 'normal' sized croutons?

I mean the ones you can buy in the grocery store. I recall Pepperidge Farm having these great little cheese-flavored croutons, which were my favorites. And they were nice and small. Now all you can buy are these humongous "homestyle" type croutons that, if you're not careful, can break your...

    What is your favorite mayonnaise?

I've always been a Hellmann's girl and, to cut fat and calories, I've gotten used to Hellmann's Light. Been using it for years. But I often see or hear comments that nothing beats Duke's mayo and even Kewpie mayo. What's your favorite and why? And how do you think Duke's and Kewpie compare to...

    Diabetes and Trulicity

I'm a Type 2 diabetic (diagnosed a couple of years ago) and I've been taking Metformin for a good while now. It's been okay at keeping my sugar levels down, but, according to my doctor, it's not quite good enough. My latest A1C was 7.1. So along with the Metformin, my doctor has prescribed me...

Good brand name of lavender oil for diffuser?

Since purchasing a bottle of lavender essential oil that smelled so bad it made me retch (followed by tossing the bottle into the trash) I'm now wondering where to go next. I adore the smell of lavender, but now I'm skeptical of purchasing oils before I can actually smell them. I wanted to ask...

Can anyone recommend a good rice steamer?

I received a nice Amazon gift card from my sister for Christmas and have decided I want to spend it on a rice steamer. I have a small one, but it always cooks my rice to mush. I want something that's going to cook my rice to perfection without costing a ton of money and maybe perhaps has...

Can you cook frozen chicken in a standard pressure cooker?

This is NOT an instant pot. It's a standard pressure cooker where you lock the lid down and it goes on the stovetop with the little weight you put on the steam valve, etc. But when I try and look up information, there are directions and recommendations everywhere for an instant pot. I became so...

Why can't we upload images from our PCs to PMs?

In the discussion forums, there is the option to upload and attach images from our PC's to the threads, but that option isn't available in private messaging. Curious as to why?

Did anyone else's Netflix payment decrease?

I was expecting an increase this month, since Netflix announced recently that their monthly subscription prices were going up again. I said that's it, if it goes up any higher than what it is right now, I'm getting rid of it. But when I went to check how much they charged me for this month, it...

What are you all doing for Thanksgiving this year?

I'm not sure what we're doing yet. The 'planner' of the family said she'd get back to me to let me know if we're all getting together or not. If we don't get together, it's going to feel very strange because the whole family gathering together for both Thanksgiving and Christmas has been a...

    Squash Blossoms

I've recently watched a video by a favorite youtuber of mine (I don't know if we're allowed to mention names or not, so I'll keep it under my hat for now) where she made her own tortillas using masa flour and made cheese and squash blossom quesadillas. They looked so amazingly good. So I was...

Do you wear your mask at drive-thru's?

Here in Ohio, we're under a mask mandate for all counties beginning today (not all counties were included in the mandate until now) although I've been wearing my mask(s) for a while now. Mostly the only place I go, other than work, is the grocery store. But sometimes my son and I like to get a...

    Cooks Skin Care

Same here. I have hand sanitizer in my car, in my purse, at work and, of course, at home. My poor hands are suffering from it all, including the handwashing. I have very sensitive, dry skin. I also go through a lot of hand lotion. It doesn't always help, though.
