Please help me decode this 1800s recipe!

I've been on a kick lately reading some old cookbooks, many of which have hand written recipes on the blank pages. I found this recipe interesting but can't figure out some of the measurements....brown sugar looks like "do"... Anyone have any ideas?

    New tips from old sources

So I'm sitting here waiting for the English muffin dough that I made last night to do one final proofing before putting them on the cast iron griddle. I have made untold number of English muffin recipes before but none of them thrilled me. This recipe comes from a cookbook from the early 1900s...

Whether we have designed our own kitchen, remodeled or just updated with some paint and accessories, our kitchens usually contain something that makes us say "Yeah, that was MY idea!". Where's YOUR shine? Creating a kosher kitchen is a challenge, two ovens, two dishwashers, 2 sets of plates...

Common kitchen staples that you never have to purchase from a grocery store

I started making some crème fraiche a few days ago...this time I used lime juice instead of my preferred lemon juice...I had a bunch of leftover limes from the jam and had visions of a lime crème fraiche, mixed with a bit of cream cheese and dill and then some chopped smoked salmon all tucked...

If you ever wanted to roast your own coffee...

Roasting coffee at home is very simple and you need no special equipment. I learned to roast about a year ago after the gourmet grocery I got my freshly roasted beans from closed. The only other place to get fresh roasted beans was in the Hamptons and charged Hampton prices...and the coffee...

Since I spent enough space venting I thought I would spend some space with some happy news...and I have lots! 1. Got my new surgery date of Aug 8th. Not even one of Lou's days in the OR but he wanted me to be the only case that day as it's a long surgery and needed special permission to get...

    Greetings from Eastern Long Island!

Since I've written about 15 posts today, I thought I should probably introduce myself. I'm home on disability since last Monday awaiting a double hip replacement and I'm going a little stir crazy...not used to sitting around. My kitchen is designed in such a way that I can do some cooking that...

Processing Bormioli jars vs Ball question

Although they are about twice the price I love the Italian Bormioli jars for my jam...they are just so pretty and I love the single piece lid. In addition, the instructions on how to process jams are much different...wait for jam to cool, put in cool jars, put in water bath of cold water and...
