Kitchen "Candy" ~ Or, Look What I Just Got!

Coffee: So, having grown up with Irish, tea-drinking parents in the UK, I had never tasted coffee at all until my next door neighbour gave me a cup of instant. (I was 16) And I liked it! (Never really liked tea to be honest.) Nowadays, I cannot even consider drinking instant coffee...

    Garden 2024

This is very interesting! Before my tulips bloomed, I had bulbs with green bits poking out of them too and I planted them with the green parts up. Seemed to work as they all came up beautifully!

    Garden 2024

Wily Dragn! I am trying to build up a variety of planting at the front of my house, (Low walls and a lot of people passing by on foot), so the entirely unused area can be made a bit more useful. I have put in some prickly plants at the edges, and about to plant a small pear tree...

    Eggs Benedict

Can't tell from this picture, but if those were thinly sliced, they could be what I would call "rashers" here in the UK. (Back bacon.)

Conflicting info for mortar and pestle care?

I have a marble P&M (which I just wash like any of my other dishes). It's okay for grinding dry spices, but absolutely hopeless for garlic. (Or any dried leaves.)

    Growing Oyster Mushrooms Indoors

My kit produced not a single mushroom. Very disappointing! Glad you got something to eat from your Dragn!

    Garden 2024

I got a bit over-excited and went for an online deal - so now I have a pear tree to plant! It's a bare root, and about 1.5m high. I am going to plant it out in the front garden this weekend and see what happens. (It only cost £5 so not the end of the world, but I am not sure I will ever...

Everything you wanted to know about Vegetarianism and were afraid to ask post...

I am an omnivore, though I don't eat a lot of meat. I do find that there are few meals you can't add more vegetables to! Any "stew" type meal - I will always add more and different vegetables to whatever the recipe says. Also rather bland things like Couscous are vastly improved by the...

Panera Bread Restaurants are getting rid of 50 % of their menu.. in April...

These are basically canapes CD - what's the recipe please? (I can't replicate exactly in the UK, but I want to make them!)

    Is oatmeal bad for you

Anything is bad for you if you eat or drink too much of it. I read, (years ago) about a person with mental health issues who drank themselves to death - with water. They effectively drowned. Broccoli is good for you. But if you only ate broccoli - you would die. Humans are generally...

    What's for dinner, Tuesday, March 26, 2024?

Well, here it is - almost TOO easy and delicious! So thanks to GG as well!

    What's for dinner, Tuesday, March 26, 2024?

Only 4 ingredients - all of which I have. I shall try it out this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion Taxy. (y)

    What's for dinner, Tuesday, March 26, 2024?

Ah, maybe that was the problem GG. I sprinkled it on both sides of each fillet. But I couldn't really taste it at all.

    Primrose omelette

Hi and welcome! I have a fair few Primroses in my front garden currently. Never thought about eating them! Are the flowers and the leaves edible?

    What's This Mystery Meat?

That explains why it looks so red then! (I guess)?

    What's This Mystery Meat?

Agreed CD. It may not be rolled. (and it is a large chunk of meat!) Personally, I would cut it into smaller chunks or have a big party!

    What's This Mystery Meat?

Cookery, if that is a "rolled roast" from the UK (and you appear to be from Surrey) then you should weigh it, and then find a brilliant recipe for stuffing it and roasting it! (In the oven)

    What's for dinner, Tuesday, March 26, 2024?

I put two cod loins in foil wraps with salt, pepper, butter and a sprinkling of Sumac. I baked these and red pepper chunks, whole large mushrooms, and red onion quarters in a glass dish. Most of the peppers got burnt, but in fact, the fish turned out beautifully. On the side, I cooked a mix...

    Is oatmeal bad for you

And do not let it sit in a bowl too long before washing up. Concrete anyone?

Do You Have A “Secret Weapon?"

I definitely wouldn't agree that Marmite tastes medicinal. It IS very salty though. So a little goes a long way. I haven't tried Vegemite so I can't comment on how (or if) they differ. Whichever one you try though - I would suggest making a piece of toast, buttering it liberally, then...

Tacky is in the eye of the beholder! (or the eater in this instance). As long as you enjoyed it, right?

I tried another new recipe today. It's a fusion dish called a Dhansak Bake. Basically, a cross between a Beef Dhansak and a Cottage pie. And jolly delicious it was - proper comfort food. I took a pic before I put it in the oven, but forgot to take one before diving in ... oh well...

Lemon and Poppy Seed Cupcakes - but no Poppy Seeds!

Maybe I will try them in another recipe! I did put some in a savoury seeded bake thing I made quite a while ago and that was fine. I guess the "gel" stuff gets absorbed within the texture of the bake so you don't notice it.
