    Sunday dinner, April 10th

I really love reading what you all are making.. it always gives me inspiration for my weekly menus. :) Tonight I made a pasta dish I came up with years ago.. It's nothing special.. braised italian sausages that are sliced after they are almost done then thrown back into the pan with some oil to...

What Turkey Type Are You Buying

I bought the cheapest frozen closest to 14lb turkey I could find at the grocery store (HEB).. I'll be brining it tonight and rubbing it with the "sticky chicken" spices (makes like a rostiserrie chicken) tomorrow and slow roasting it Thursday. I use Alton Brown's brine, with the addition of...

    Celebrations and Holidays

For us it depends on the holiday... I've always been of the mind, Turkey on Thanksgiving, Ham for Christmas, Smoked Brisket for Easter... The prep on the turkey changes each year though.. it's always brined.. but sometimes we deep fry it.. sometimes we smoke it.. and sometimes we roast it.. this...

    Planning special dinner for diabetic

My husband is diabetic and one of his favorite special meals is a pan seared steak (for special occasions I get a ribeye, other times I get a NY strip), and on the side sauteed squash and zucchini that has a can of fire roasted tomatoes and some basil in it, and green beans that are blanched and...

What are you eating Tuesday January 12, 2010?

Not a clue yet. The Husband is going to pick something up at the grocery store on his way home, but I have no idea what to tell him to get. I'm trying to trim down before a wedding we are attending in two weeks, so I'm trying to make healthy less rich choices.... But nothing has jumped out at...

What are you eating Thursday January 7, 2010?

It's freezing here in the south today, so I'm thinking a big pot of chicken and dumplings is in order for dinner tonight.. with some homemade buttermilk biscuits. And if I'm feeling ambitious in a little bit I'm thinking about making a red velvet cake for some cake truffles. Lunch will...

    What's cooking Tuesday January 5, 2010?

The Husband and kids had chili dogs, fries and brown sugar baked beans. It had to be easy because The husband had to do the cooking tonight while I was at a girl scout troop planning meeting. I had some simply asia noodles when I got home, spicy kung pao flavor.

    New Year's Menus

Ooohhh.. Thanks for the Coq Au Vin idea! I've been wanting to make that recently and I think New Years Day is the perfect time. As for NYE.. we usually snack on queso, salsa, various other dips, meatballs, etc. But I'm also thinking Chinese takeout sounds pretty darn yummy, too. But I definitly...

    What's cooking Monday December 28, 2009?

Well, I have lots of leftover ham.. Still trying to figure out what I want to do with it. I've got eggs, so the obvious choice is omlettes or something.. but I really have to be in the mood to eat eggs, and I'm definitly not in that mood right now. :( So, I'm still staring bleakly at the ham...

What's your opinion "Eating at home is better than eating at restaurants

Eating at home is only healthier if you CHOOSE to make it healthier. It can be just as bad, if not worse, than a fast food restaurant if you choose bad foods when at the grocery store. In the same vein, eating out can be just as healthy as scratch cooking. You can CHOOSE to eat at a...

What's your favorite way to make a PBJ?

This reminds me of how my 3rd DS likes his PBJ.. He likes to butter the outside of the sammie, and then grills it in a pan like you would a grilled cheese. It's pretty good. :)
