    Cooking Magazines?

My wife and I have subscribed to "Taste of Home's, Quick Cooking" for the last year and have only had a few complaints. The recipes are reasonably simple and quick to prepare for the most part. Time for renewal has come up and I decided to see what people thought of other cooking magazines...

gas prices are out of hand

I don't think the automobile is truly essential in many ways. It is essential because we choose to make it so by living far away from our jobs. My wife rides her bike to and from work on a regular basis. I've also walked to the grocery store several times. Most people can't stop using there...

gas prices are out of hand

I'm not too concerned with gas prices. Our gas is still cheaper than a bottle of water AND its cheaper than what they pay in almost every other country in the world. I say gas prices should be even higher (through higher taxes) so that we can discourage the rampant consumerism that exists now...

    ISO: Feijoada

Anyone have a good Feijoada recipe that they've tried and liked? For those who don't know, its practically the national food in Brazil. Usually a bean dish with several kinds of meat, sometimes fruit. Usually served with rice.

    ISO Arroz Con Pollo recipe

Good eye there Michael. It DOES look like a spanish dish rather than Latin.

****'s Kitchen to get a second season....

My wife and I watched every episode. We enjoyed it a great deal although we really wish we had the recipes for a few of those dishes. We predicted the final two contestants but it was a tough call between the two of them. Our choice won out in the end.

    ISO Arroz Con Pollo recipe

Latin cooking not that spicy?? We'll my experience has been the complete opposite but then every area of Latin America has their own cuisine too. My time was spent in Mexico and in Bolivia. Not everything in Bolivia is spicy but I'd say the majority of it has some kick to it.

Just bought my first Shun! :)

I own that very same knife. It is the only knife I use in my kitchen and my wife and I both LOVE it to death. Wonderful knife.

    Kershaw Ken Onion Chef's Knife

Same here. I haven't read much about the Ken Onion kitchen knife yet. I DO own several ken onion pocket knives though and they are very nice. Ditto on the praises to Shun. I couldn't afford a full set but the Santoku is my primary kitchen knife and i LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it to death.

Does anyone have a recipe for some HOT pickle relish? I love hot pickles but they're difficult for me to find and I'm no pickler myself.

    Down-Home Sausage Gravy

The only things that I see missing (to some extent) is black pepper. All the sausage gravies I've ever had contained LARGE amounts of black pepper. Alot more than I consider "to taste".

if you could have anything to eat right now...

My problemed craving is called Wong Jo Chicken. Its a problem for a few reasons. First, it is a chinese dish made exclusively at a restaurant in Mesa, Arizona called Wong's Place. Second, I live in Colorado!! Sadly, I crave it often but only get if on the rare occasion that my wife...

    Do You Like the Heat?

I love hot stuff. It doesn't seem hot to me but my wife tells me that the things I eat are insane. Most store bought food that says HOT on it is just mild to me. Nevertheless, food that is too hot sometimes diminishes the flavor.

    Wahoos?

There's a local place that sells fish tacos. I'm thinking of trying to duplicate their fish tacos on the grill at home. Anyone else ever been to Wahoos? Any ideas what they put in the seasoning for the spicy version? Come to think of it...i don't even know what kind of fish they use...

    what is this salad?

that certainly looks like it could be it. I was led to believe that it was a foreign dish though. It was served at a pot-luck with a "foreign" theme. I wonder if the dish is really foreign and what the background of it is.

    Porqupine 1 v. PitBull 0

looks like the dog wasn't smart enough to stop biting after the first mouthful of quills. I guess it says something about either his brains or his aggressiveness.

    cooking Sherry?

a related question. The same recipe suggests the use of unsweetened apple juice as a replacement for the sherry. How similiar are they. Unsweetened apple juice is probably tough to find too though.

    cooking Sherry?

Is there somewhere that I'm likely to find small amounts of sherry for a recipe? My wife and I don't drink and we've never tried this recipe before so its possible that we may never make it again. The recipe calls for 1/4 cup of sherry and we already checked all our friends who drink to see...

    what is this salad?

I had a really good (but odd) salad at a pot luck a few months back. I don't recall all the ingredients but I think it was supposed to be something greek. Here's what a i remember. - lots of spinach -sliced strawberries -yogurt (strawberry I think) It may have had other ingredients that I...

    Harry Potter

I just finished it last night. Thinking about starting a (spoiler) post where those of us who have finished the book can discuss issues there. Very good though. I got kinda weepy at the end with the dying and all.

Now that's what I call spicy!

My son is 3 now but I started putting hot sauce in his baby food when he first started eating solid foods. He loves it now. He's not a true chili-head yet but he's getting there.

    Cookware and Accessories Forum...

not fond of the sub-forums myself. It never seemed so busy that one forum didn't cover it. I used to be able to check just the one forum, now I have to check a handful of them. Just makes checking the forum more of a chore than it was before.
