been looking for a butter bell since ages . . . the ones I recall were a tray, butter inside a 'welled' area, 'bell' that came down over the butter into a water seal area. not found any such on the market place anymore - it's all an upside down 'cup' into a 'pot' with water....

anyway, finally broke down and got one for the table . . . holds 115g/qtr cup - I'm on my third "refill" and loving it . . .

@taxlady Those numbers on rice cookers usually refer to a measuring cup they give you (different from our usual measuring cup), and you put that many "cups" of the rice in, wash it well, then fill to that level mark in the cooker. That's obviously a better rice cooker, since jasmine doesn't need as much water, and it accounts for that.

Nifty. That seems like a reasonable way to do it.

One of my reasons (I will always find one somewhere), I can do my oatmeal and not watch it bubble all over. I can practice sushi rice, since moving I cannot for the life of me make decent rice. On the farm never had a problem.
So that's 4 good reasons.
Regular rice
Sushi rice
Jasmine
Oatmeal

I also happen to like making rice with coconut milk - do you think I will be able to with the cooker? The ratio is pretty much the same.

What happened to "Tarnation! You do NOT need anything more! Especially another cook book, or pans, well... maybe the induction plate is OK, but stop or I'm taking away your credit card!"

no pic of the induction plate, after all it's just a silver coloured disc!
But I like Laura Calder, aside from the fact she's Canadian. I like her chatter and loved her shows. Have 2 books.... so far?

This link shows pretty much what I do for coconut rice - Rice Cooker Coconut Rice - however, I do NOT use the shredded coconut (yuck!)...and I will often add a tablespoon or two of coconut/palm sugar. This smells heavenly while cooking!!

I've been wanting these for some time now, but could never find anywhere here in Cowboyville.
I try to NOT order stuff from Amazon nor pay someone for S&H costs.
COSTCO to the rescue!!!
Funny, I was watching a You Tube video on a Costco haul and they featured these - we had to make a trip over there today to make some returns ...
BINGO!!
I wanted these for `fridge proofing Pizza dough.

In the not too distant past I used to buy from both Amazon US and Amazon UK but am unable to buy from either now, even though I have the correct passwords, because I don't have a smartphone. Even to contact them by email is impossible as after you fill in name/password they send a four number code to your phone and ask you to tap on it when you receive it.

My little flip-top mobile phone does receive SMS messages, does not have internet access and does not have a screen which can be tapped [or swiped]. It just has a tiny black screen which will show short messages in white.

Further to my above comment, these days more and more companies can only be contacted via smartphones, either by tapping on a code to confirm your ID/password, or via WhatsApp. You can't even email or telephone Customer Services at many online companies now.

I recently contacted our local grocery (HEB) as to why they were penalizing shoppers that did not have smart phones. All the coupons are now "scannable" and there are no paper coupons hanging near the items. I haven't heard back from them, nor do I really expect to.
Is it possible that "smart phones" are taking over? Rise up customers, and revolt!!!

I really hate that so much depends on having a cell phone and often it has to be a smart phone. Sometimes phones run out of power. Do they really think its reasonable that I can't do something on the internet when my phone is unavailable? And, don't get me started on two factor verification. So much of it is just security theatre. If someone gets hold of my phone and that is set up for two factor verification, then they will get the codes sent to the phone. Also, I don't want facial recognition or finger print scanning until they can convince me that they won't work if I am unconscious or dead or if my finger isn't still attached to me.
