You have it sitting on a table with cookies. Do you think it may have been used for salt & pepper shakers? It does not look very old. It may have come from a cooking store or dept store cooking section. Maybe something picked up on vacation. Could have been a gift!

Looks like a stand of some kind. Some thing(s) rest on the metal surrounding the wood handle in the center.

Looking just at the wood, Could be for tamping sauerkraut in the jar, or the stick scots use for oatmeal, I forget the name

To me it looks like something to stamp out dough in a specific form

I agree with Andy. Looks like a rest to hold things off the bottom of a pot, a deep pot based on the size of the wooden post. Multiple jars?

does the wood post unscrew from the metal frame? or twist latch? could be used to place into a hot device or used to removed if the post could be taken off.

Wild guess: It holds two bowls. One has a small opening in the middle and sits around that wooden thing. The second one is larger, with a larger opening in the middle, sort of like a ring mould for gelatine, and sits around the smaller bowl. It could be for decorations or for serving something, like candies or other small items of food. Maybe the inside bowl is for small food items and the outside circle is for a wreath. Maybe the inside bowl is for a dip and the outside bowl holds the chips, crudités, or whatever for dipping.

That's what I was thinking - 3 porcelain bowls of a specific shape, that would fit in, to hold some condiments, or something like that, to pass around the table. Those things sticking out, maybe to stabilize it, and for decoration.

Not really bowls, but porcelain containers, specifically shaped to fit in it. Condiment caddys are similar, less fancy items.

The 3 vertical 'legs' would brace the outside of the containers. Each of the inside arches would be touching the containers to balance them. Hope my amateur efforts make sense.

Okay, I see what you mean. But, what about the inside part? Would that have the circular container that I mentioned? Because if there isn't something there, the thing will look stupid in use.

Let's face it, there have been/are a lot of stupid things out there! People used to buy me things for my kitchen/dining area as gifts, and I told them to stop buying stuff for me! Most were things that I used maybe once, and eventually a lady I knew, who had a table at a flea market, got rid of much of it for me. Of course, there is still more...

We have to account for the 3 tail-like legs. What are they for? If this were a stand of some sort, their shape is wrong. The lobe-like ends would be of no value for a stand, and the whole thing can be stable only on a flat surface. The thing is obviously, modern and mass-produced, and its construction, while not exactly flimsy, does not suggest that it's a tool for meant for repeated and extensive use. More likely something that was brought out as a semi-decorative/semi-practical object for occasional use.

I have a plastic version of something very similar. It has 3 bowls, red, white and green. I use it for things that need Salsa, Guac and Sour cream. I keep it in the RV, or I could send a picture. It is handy for taking Nachos/fixin's to Potluck at campouts.

That said, this one looks like it might hurt someone, if used as a weapon! :ninja:
