Kitchen "Candy" ~ Or, Look What I Just Got!

Thanks Aunt Bea. That brought back some memories.

    Baking Sheet Recommendation

Stainless steel steam table insert pans. Restaurants often use them as baking pans. Available in various depths, I think 2 1/2" is the most shallow.

    Scenes from the Past...

I certainly do. Too bad the price isn't visible, then I could narrow down the year. I first saw it at 39 cents/ pound.

What can I do with a cast iron griddle except for pancakes?

In addition to all the uses above, the one I have also makes a perfect cast iron lid for my cast iron frying pan. I can use them like a small dutch oven for braising and roasting.

    Flavoring My Morning Oatmeal

For breakfast this morning I had a bowl of left-overs, oat groats and onion soup. Very good and very satisfying on such a cold damp morning.

Kitchen "Candy" ~ Or, Look What I Just Got!

The Rada chef's knife is one of my most recommended knives to people who are just looking for an easy to maintain, inexpensive knife. It works as well as most of the people I know want. I use it most often for the one quick job. If we have company I and the guest wants to be in the kitchen...

Can anyone recommend a good Chef Knife that isn't terribly expensive?

A Victorinox knife safe is another option. It's a snap open rigid knife case.

How about foods you've tried once or twice that you'll never eat again.

Spirulina noodles. Not enough printable words to describe that. On the other hand, I love most all those hated greens, and all the cruciferous veggies too.

Can someone explain to me why this is funny?

I believe it's a take off on The Creature From The Black Lagoon and he's seeing him off so he can get back at all those people who eat frog legs. Could also be a proud parent sending off their pride n joy to take on the world-- probably all of that stuff all rolled into one. Doesn't do...

Do you remember when you got your first grey hair

I was 24 and I can tell you the exact date, not so much because of the gray hair, but it was the 21st anniversary of my Mother's passing. That made it seem quite odd and a touch unsettling. Other than that it didn't bother me much.

    About celery

When roasting a duck I'd make a rack of celery to put the duck on. First time was because I didn't have a rack and there after it was because it was absolutely delicious. I eat it daily sliced up for extra crunch in my salads and use it in making soups.

I have this one for grating nutmeg. Microplane Manual Spice Mill. Currently $21 on Amazon. Works really well, we use it almost everyday. Doesn't have a catch cup and the top part is kept on by gravity. Never had any issues with it clogging up. The top part is the pestle and it also acts...

2 From the Tool Box to the Kitchen Drawer

I addition to some of the tools already mentioned, I have a small pair of tin snips that I use to open heavy hard plastic packaging, to cut up plastic packaging (like the jars peanuts come in) and the occasional can that I use that has a bottom that can not be opened normally. I have no...

Removing non stick coating from a skillet?

I bought an All Clad 3qt saute pan with lid in a thrift store for $7.98. I got it in '08 or '09. The interior coating was badly damaged and the exterior of the pan was in pretty rough shape with many gouges and scrapes. I started with with oven cleaner to remove a majority of the teflon...
