    The Sick Room

@taxlady calcium supplements can cause leg/feet cramps as a side effect. Look it up to verify it, then cut back on how much calcium supplement you are taking. Then pay attention if that helps.

What did you eat on Monday, April 22, 2024?

Meal sized salad with caesar dressing (cashew cauliflower base). I was still hungry, so I had 3 baked tortillas w/salsa and avocado. I was still hungry and had a bowl of cooked carrots and brussel sprouts. I guess I should have eaten bigger meals earlier!

I think I've messed up here...

Waste not want not. If it smells bad-throw it out, rancid flour/mix is no good for you to eat. If it isn't bad, I'd use it.

Honey Bee Keeping and other pollinators

I have to tell you, last year, we had bumblebees beneath the deck. We lived in harmony until canning season and one sting. I know how wonderful all different bees do so much pollination. The more the better, just not taking over my preparation space!

edit to add: I used an inexpensive sous vide (my Sous-Vide) to heat the syrup and it worked great. It heated up 4 gallons of syrup in 10 minutes to 100 deg F. (this is good since I'd only use a sous vide for meat which we don't eat now, so I guess I'll keep it for heating syrup.) Installed bees...

Turmeric. what is it good for?

It is used in curries. We don't eat a lot of curries. It tastes better to use fresh than dry. I've used it in a turmeric honey hot tea with plant milk. Health wise a little black pepper with turmeric makes health benefits more bioavailable. I use it in vegetable sauces that mimic cheese to give...

Converting 6 in. to 9 in?

To be clear, you have a recipe for 3-6inch cakes, so 12 oz x 3=36 ounces of batter. You want to make 1 layer only of the 9 inch round cake, so you only need 28 ounces and what @pepperhead212 is correct. One layer is 3/4 of the recipe (about 28 ounces). If you wanted 3 layers of a 9 inch cake...

Honey Bee Keeping and other pollinators

@dragnlaw it's okay, those hives are heavy. I'm going to worry about the bees in the garage tonight, hoping not too many die. I noticed the pear tree is about to bloom, and it's right by the east hives. Those bees are in for a treat with that tree right there first thing tomorrow. The dandelions...

no, I got it. We do have a big tent, but to put it up we'd have to move hives, then install, then we'd have to move them again to take down the tent, and that would only be 4 hives, not all the hives at both ends of the property. The idea is good, but too much work. And thank you!

    Finally bought a bench scraper

Besides baking/dough, I like mine most when canning fruit. Fruit is juicy and when I dice it juice goes all over the bread board and starts heading towards the downward edge. The metal scraper picks up the pineapple for instance, and a good amount of the juice. The juice never makes it to the edge.
