Usually, for Christmas Eve dinner, I do The Feast of the Seven Fishes, Our Way.

(photo circa 12/2021, starting in the lower left, Slipper Lobster, Kamaboko aka Japanese steamed Fish Cake, Mussel Marinara, Salmon Poke Bowl, Shrimp Cocktail, Scallops, another Lobster Tail and mini Pizzas topped with Anchovies)

But this year we've had a huge monkey wrench thrown into the mix.

No planning involved, too tired and busy:

I had some frozen Pizza dough and the fixin's that we like, so that was dinner this evening.

I tried my Pizza dunked in Ranch Dressing, just for you @pepperhead212 , meh, NOPE!

That Pizza was amazing, even if I do say so myself... I looked back at my food photos, and I had not made Pizza since 4/2020 o_O

Tomorrow, well, I'm not sure yet.

I have DH's favorite New Zealand Green Lip Mussels and Texas White Gulf Shrimp as well I found some of my handmade Cheese Ravs in the freezer ... hmmm ... sounds like a feast to me!

Oh and Waffles with Pork Breakfast Sausage me thinks for breakfast tomorrow :yum:
Maybe a small Charcuterie Board as an afternoon snack.

No dinner. I don’t feel like doing anything. The day is ruined, and probably tomorrow also. And I didn’t get to see daughter today. Hopefully she’ll come tomorrow to open gifts and then go home afterward.

We had (lousy) frozen pizza and the baked clams. Well, I had 3 clams.

The roast was still frozen hard, so that went back into the freezer. I guess it will be charcuterie for dinner tomorrow. I make the roast for new year's day.

We will have some sort of whole chicken dish for supper on Xmas day. I don't really celebrate Xmas, but it sounded like a good idea, so it's defrosting in the fridge now. I figure the pre-Xtian traditions included a number of days of feasting and celebrating, so I'll do the same.

@msmofet I am sorry to hear your pipes are still delivering no water. But roast for NY is a great way to start the year. Hoping that your water returns through the night.

I've got all my prep work done for tomorrow. The menu is:

Pork Tamales
Chicken, Cheese, and Green Chili Tamales
Pico de Galo
Guacamole
Green Mexican Rice
Refried Beans
Citrus Salad with Pomogranet
Horchata

Oreo Ice Box Cake for dessert.

I will have leftovers for days.

Christmas dinner was Rustic Mushroom Pot Pie. Delicious.

Busy day of cooking, but Goober gave me a hand. Two, actually! Plenty of choices for the picky eaters. We had ham, bratwurst with sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, roasted carrots, green beans, Brussels sprouts with bacon and mushrooms. Relish tray, cheese and ring bologna, chilled shrimp for snacking before, cookies for dessert after.

I had two grands biscuits with Kerrygold.
I am so sorry that your plans didn't work out this year. We all know how important the holidays are to you. But remember that no one knows for sure what day Christ was born. No one knows for sure what day is actually Christmas Day. Christmas is in your heart, not on the calendar. If you have your special dinner tomorrow or next week, it doesn't really matter. Celebrate when you can, and share your wonderful meal with us. We all need a second Christmas!

Reversed seared prime rib, plus a bunch of other stuff including roasted Yukon Golds, Grilled Asparagus, and Grilled Shrimp ?. Only took a picture of the meat.

Daou Cab and Penner-Ash Pinot were the adult beverages.

Water is starting to come back but very low water pressure. I have to go buy a tub stopper so I can fill tub with water. So we can at least flush if it goes off again. DD threw my stopper out by mistake and never told me till now.

Hopefully it stays on so I can cook something tonight.
I have a bunch of vegetables that need to be used.

I'm glad your water is coming back. You could put a washcloth in the drain so you can fill the tub till you get the stopper. You could also pick up a gallon or two of bottled water to make sure you have enough to cook with.

Good ideas.

Isn't it usually a good idea to leave a trickle of water runing when there is a risk of pipes freezing? Loads of people say to do that, but I don't know the science or if it actually works.

That trickle keeps the water moving. Still water will freeze before flowing water. The slight movement of the trickling water lowers its freezing point. This works. Many years ago the pipe feeding water into my home froze during a cold snap. We ran a hose from my neighbor's outside faucet to ours and left it on. that provided us with water for the interim and kept the garden hose from freezing.

I often had to do that with the water in the barn and at our cottages when there during the fall and early winter months. Yes, it works. Andy explained the science behind it.

The water here has been on trickling for five days. Saturday made a funny sound like it was freezing. Turned the water Full blast for 2 or 3 minutes and it seemed to clear the icy mess. The snow today followed by cold wind ... I put a heater to keep it warmer. That 50 degrees can come sooner I hope.

Another old preventative measure is to put a mechanics lead cord with a 100 watt lightbulb under the sink. The old style lightbulbs generate enough heat to keep things from freezing.

We used to do the same thing with the cars during periods of subzero weather. The lead cord and bulb were put under the hood of the car to keep things warm.

I remember my mother taking off one cold
dark morning without removing the cord, and then the fight started! ?
