Kitchen "Candy" ~ Or, Look What I Just Got!

A parcel arrived from Lee Valley Tools this afternoon. I haven't had a chance to look at everything yet. I'll do that after supper and probably post some pix.

I finally got around to opening the two boxes of kitchen stuff.

I got this set of nesting drip trays with basins. Now, when I have a bunch of produce to wash and drain, I won't need to stack several colanders on my dish drying rack. That can be a bit of a balancing act.

I also got this set of nesting Duralex bowls. I was only looking for one, microwaveable glass bowl, but look what I found. "In sizes ranging from 2 1/4" to 9" in diameter ..."

I love love love my Duralex bowls, taxy! I got them ages ago, probably 40 years. Mine don't have that thicker edge like yours do. I did chip the edge of one of the bigger bowls, but Himself was able to smooth it out. Happy cooking with yours!

I bought a dinnerware set of eight settings in Duralex, back in the late 1970s. I still have six dinner plates and a bunch of other stuff. I had two medium sized serving bowls, but ex-DH thought it would be a good idea to make Xmas pudding in one of them, in spite of my protests (in a water bath, I think in the oven) and I was proven right. :ermm: Anyhoo, I got three fake crystal serving bowls of the same size from my belle mère (French for m-i-l, but I need another term for her than for current DH's mum. As a friend put it, "I divorced him, not his mother. I kept her.") I used those for years, but they don't work in the microwave and I'm down to one of those. So, I needed another bowl. I am quite fond of Duralex, even though it can crumble, when it has collected enough knocks and taps. Duralex for serving is handy already cooked food, like potatoes, rice, and pouches of Indian vegis. They get nuked in the bowl and then go straight onto the table (on a trivet).

Toys! I got toys! I've really been missing my bread machine. I had my old one for well over two decades, maybe more than three, but it did most of its work over the past dozen years. I wanted to treat myself to a new one. Not fancier, since I use it mostly for dough I bake off in the oven, but new. I usually use Discover cash back gift cards for free kitchen toys at BB&B. Before I put my order in, I Googled the unit I was getting for reviews. What BB&B was selling for $95, Joann (of all places) had it for $50. Decisions, decisions. Do I get it "free", or pay for it? Oh, wait! Joann also has an ice cream maker for $43, less 20% since it's on clearance. Himself's advice? "Money is fungible" I got them both.

I'll probably be making bread by the end of the week. Maybe ice cream, too, although that will have a bit of a learning curve. Ice cream sandwiches, anyone? LOL!

Sounds like a good score CG. Have fun with the ice cream maker. Get the bowl washed and into the freezer (dry) quick, so when you are ready to make ice cream, you won't have to wait for the bowl to get cold enough. I have an ice cream maker. I think it's a Cuisinart. Anyhoo, I looked in the manual. I chose a recipe that looked good and used that. It worked a treat. yes, I have been tweaking those recipes and finding new ones. But, it was a good start.

I just bought pot holders, a set of small tongs, and dish towels. Nothing too exciting.

I do have my eye on a mini waffle maker. :chef:

??? they look pretty wide and flat to me...

they'd go real nice with my other wide dishes. just what I need, more dishes to store. :ermm:

K-Girl, those look like they could be the albino version of my flat soup/salad bowls I have from Pfaltzgraff. I really like the size/shape of those bowls. Did you use them for pasta yet?

They look flat and wide to me, too. And one can never have too many dishes. In my opinion, there is no such thing.
