Cornstarch or arrowroot.
Or even potato starch.
I have read that cornstarch is not good with acidic ingredients and that arrowroot gets "long" with dairy ingredients. So, it depends on what else is in the soup.

I´d want to see the recipe, but all the above will work. Is it just to thicken the soup, or is it an essential ingredient?

Yeah, I'd be curious to see the recipe too.
I made a soup with Basan flour ( chickpea flour) which worked out nice.

chickpea flour would be a great choice! I always have it on-hand, also millet flour. Both are used in Indian recipes.
