Loverly gave me a $35 gift card to use at Penzeys. I hope we get a chance to go to West Side Market again before we head home, since Penzeys has a shop in a restored, historic bank building across from the Market. If not, we'll just have to make a road trip of 45 miles to get to the closest Penzeys from home. I know, I know, I could use it online. Kinda hard to sniff the goods that way, though. ;)

It's a Kenmore, and so much more than I expected... My extended kitchen candy!

I'm feeling "almost" guilty for enjoying my brand new barbecue this mild California evening here. What a honey it is, with a 12,800 BTU searing burner on the side wing, although I didn't use it tonight.

My first cook was...wait for it...Tri Tip. No surprise there, but the tail of the triangle always gets well done so my silicone bands came to the rescue for an experiment, and we ended up with a more consistently rare piece of meat, with the aid of the ThermoWorks probe thermometer set to 125 degrees. It has 4 burners, so I did it indirect only using the two outside burners, the right with a wood chip smoke box. Wow, that worked well, and I'll do it again.

It looks like we've all been way too good. No new kitchen stuff? Here, let me rectify that. ;) I've been wanting a new toaster oven for a while. While my decade+ Cuisinart toaster oven is working fine, it's not as big as I would like. Often, I need to use my big oven when, if it were just a couple of inches bigger, a toaster oven would work just as good. After months of debate, how big I was going to get, did I want one with or without a rotisserie, how about an air fryer option...I decided on an Oster Toaster Oven with Convection and two baking racks. The two racks will come in nice for two pans of scones, or a baking dish with protein and a second one with veggie or starch. I baked two individual pizzas at once today. Nice. :chef:

Thank you, PF. I love toaster ovens, too. Loved my Cuisinart for toasting, baking, making small casseroles, even a loaf of quick bread. But I started thinking of one with a larger cabinet the first time I made a loaf of homemade country white bread in the toaster oven...and it rose so much more in the oven that I had two racing stripes across the top of the loaf! Had to pull the loaf out before it became one with the heating elements and finish it off in the big oven.

You still have a Breville, PF? I know many DCers do, and you all seem to love them. I kept looking at them, but the only model that mentioned two oven racks was the model with the air frying feature...and a $399.99 price tag at BB&B. If this $110. serves me as well as my last TO, I'll be tickled pink.

Still have the Breville, you know how hard it was to drive with that thing in my lap on the way to Wyoming??? Didn't want anything to happen to it and if anything did I wanted to be the one who messed up.

Amazon has discounted prices on some Breville ovens from time to time. I have the 800XL, and paid $200 for it. It gets used more often than the big oven (just 2 of us). Very happy with the purchase. It will hold a quarter sheet pan, so it's great for roasting veggies, oven fries, etc.

When I use both racks in the big oven there is a noticeable difference between the top and bottom racks. When I make things like breadsticks I swap them between the racks about halfway through. Not sure how this would work in a toaster oven.

I remember the extended discussion we hd on Breville toaster ovens years ago and how great they are. I made a mental note that when my current one dies that's what I'll get.

Still waiting. The cuisinart I bought 15-18 years ago is still going strong. It's not quite big enough for a 13"x9" but I can bake, broil and toast in it.

My new toy:

That one looks like a dandy, and I'd love to have a larger one than I have.
I'm limited to the counter width available to the left of my stove however.
My Black and Decker has all the features I want, and fits the space, although not a 9x13 pan.

Ross, with 1,850 Watts on a 120V-AC appliance, that toaster oven could be over 15 AMPS of draw. I'd make sure about what it draws, and that your apartment has at least 20 AMP circuits.

Thank you, CD.. I will certainly look into that before making a decision.. :)

So excited!
This came in the mail today
my new pans.JPG
Two 6 cup aka Half Sized Bundt Pans
The two that I've been using for, oh I don't know,
maybe 6-7 years have not been preforming very well,
so I figured we'd up grade.

(I refer to the two pans on the right-the ones on the left are bundlettes, cute huh?)
These are twice the weight of my old ones;
we'll find out tomorrow how much better they really are...
stay tuned

I've been putting off getting my Instant Pot until Jeannie and I have our apartment but..
Amazon has a "Daylight Deal" so, I ordered one yesterday.. Will be here Friday.. :)
